Dr. Krista Shinew, originally from Somerset, Pennsylvania, moved to Danville, VA in 2010. After graduating from VA-MD Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech, she practiced as a mixed large animal and small animal practitioner before exclusively practicing small animal medicine. While Dr. Shinew enjoys all aspects of general practice, her special interests include surgery and feline medicine.
Before vet school Krista had a successful career as a classically trained concert artist and music instructor. She has a doctorate in organ performance and spent time touring, giving concerts, and teaching college music courses. Krista also plays piano, harpsichord, and clarinet. She is an active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Roanoke, VA where she serves as the organist.
In her spare time Krista enjoys working on various projects around her hobby farm which will eventually be home to beef cows, horses, rabbits, and chickens. She shares her home with her 8 year old cat, Bagheera and two 7 month old kittens that were raised from bottle babies, Nala and Simba.
